DEMAND RISES AS YOUNG PEOPLE TURN TO EDUCATION
A local Further Education college has seen such a surge of applications for the new academic year that it is appealing for skilled individuals who could pass onto their knowledge to students to get in touch.
New College Stamford is seeing an increased number of people enrolling on its September courses in subjects from Travel & Tourism to Hospitality, as both school leavers and adult learners turn to education in a bid to learn new skills or upgrade existing knowledge.
This growth in demand has led to a need for skilled individuals to teach these and other subjects, and New College Stamford is working with Protocol National, a company that specialises in providing lecturers and NVQ Assessors to Further Education Colleges, to find people who can fulfil this need.
Charlotte Woods, Protocol National Staffing Co-ordinator, said, “The College has been receiving enquiries for a while about the classes we’ll be running in September, but recently the numbers have really jumped. I think it’s a combination of students finishing their current courses and those that are unemployed wanting to reskill – but in both cases it basically comes down to people wanting to maximise their chances of employment in the current market.
“It does mean that we need to make sure we have enough people to teach and all these classes come September and this is why we’re looking for skilled individuals who could work part time passing on their knowledge to the students.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for flexible work - because it is part time, it can give finances a boost while fitting around a current job or family commitments. It also offers a great sense of achievement that many find they value and enjoy.”
