SCIENCE SKILLS IN DEMAND AT NEW COLLEGE STAMFORD
As National Science and Engineering Week, the British Science Association’s annual celebration of Science, Engineering and Technology gets underway, New College in Stamford is calling for more professionals to think about using their skills to inspire the scientists of the future.
As the government steps up its ‘Science: So what? So everything’ campaign to encourage more students onto Science and Engineering courses, the need for qualified individuals to teach these subjects is growing. Now the college is working with Protocol National, a company that specialises in providing lecturers and NVQ assessors to Further Education colleges nationwide, to try and find lecturers in these areas.
Staffing Coordinator Lucie Turk, said, “There is currently more focus than ever on how science benefits our everyday lives and is integral in virtually everything we do. This heightened awareness of the importance of science has resulted in an increased level of interest in both traditional subjects such as Chemistry and Physics, but also courses like Mechanical Engineering and Building Services.
“It’s important that this enthusiasm for Science, Engineering and Technology in our students is harnessed, so we’re looking for people who are qualified in these areas to really bring the subject to life in the classroom. This can be either through their passion for the topic or by illustrating the type of career that a background in science can lead to.”
