GREEN FINGERS NEEDED TO HELP STUDENTS GROW
Green fingered gardeners are just one of the more unusual experts being sought by North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, as it deals with increasing demand for a whole range of courses.
Since the New Year, the college has seen more interest in subjects as wide ranging as Horticulture, Counselling and Soft Furnishings, which has been largely attributed to people looking to re-train or pursue other interests as a result of the credit crunch. Now the college is working with Protocol National, an organisation that places lecturers in a huge range of assignments in over 230 Further Education colleges across the country, to try and find experts who can pass on their knowledge to these students.
With flexible hours and freedom of choice, part time lecturing or NVQ assessing provides the flexibility that can fit around another job or family commitments. It is also a practical option for those looking to boost their income in the current economic times, give something back to the community, or take a new direction in their career.
A long with horticulturalists, there are also vacancies for experts in Business Management, Food Hygiene and First Aid – although Client Development Manager, Heidi Richards was quick to point out there are plenty of opportunities in more traditional subjects too.
She added, “Many people are surprised to learn that you don’t need a background in teaching to become a Further Education lecturer. In many cases the skills and knowledge gained from a vocational career can be enough to get started, and initial teaching qualifications can be obtained at a later stage.”
