NEW DOORS OPEN AT ACCRINGTON & ROSSENDALE COLLEGE

Accrington & Rossendale College is offering skilled professionals a step towards a new career in Further Education with the chance to retrain for free.

A drop-in event is being held at the college on Thursday 26 February to encourage those affected by the credit crunch or seeking a new career to consider working as a trainer/lecturer/assessor. Course leaders will be on hand to explain what is involved and how easy it can be to get started – as well as the benefits it can bring.

The event is being run by Protocol National, a company that provides lecturers, trainers and assessors to over 230 FE colleges across the country, and Client Development Manager Susan Mercer says it represents an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to supplement their income or change their career path at the moment.

“As the economic downturn threatens jobs in a whole range of sectors, more and more people are now considering part time teaching. Re-skilling those affected has become a priority and the courses on offer at Accrington & Rossendale College are designed to make it easier for those interested in pursuing a career in education to get a foot on the ladder.”

Those securing part time work through Protocol National at Accrington & Rossendale College following this event will be given the opportunity to embark on the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) teacher training course free of charge. This course, along with relevant vocational experience, will provide them with the basic qualifications required to teach in the FE sector.

Susan explained, “ Most people currently working in a vocational career have the competence and experience to teach part-time, as it’s skills and knowledge of a particular trade or subject that are initially the most important. Teaching qualifications can be obtained at a later stage.

“We’re particularly looking for qualified sports coaches, hair and beauty professionals, Maths and English teachers and IT workers who would find it interesting and fulfilling to pass on their skills to others, but we’re interested to hear from anyone who might be interested in a change of direction.”

The drop in event will be held at Accrington and Rossendale College in the Conference Centre at the Broad Oak Campus. To find out more about the event and the opportunities available, please contact Lauren Hardman on 0115 938 8331or email lhardman@protocol-national.co.uk
