FE Governance 2010

Adapting to the challenges that change brings

Tuesday 23rd February 2010 (One Day Seminar)
Event code: CLC064
Protocol National, Castle Marina Road, Nottingham NG7 1TN

Who Should Attend
An essential one-day event for Principals, Senior Managers, Governors and Clerks to College Corporations.

Overview
April 2010 will see the biggest change for FE since incorporation in 1993. The recent Machinery of Government changes, with the responsibilities for funding moving to Local Authorities and the Young People’s Skills Funding Agency, will have a significant impact on the work of college corporations and governance. Issues of decision-making, accountability and responsibility will be high on the agenda for corporations with significant focus on the relationship between corporations and their stakeholders and funders. Set in this context, the one-day seminar will focus on the laws and principles of good governance in the changing environment for colleges and their governing bodies.

This event will cover:
· The legal framework for FE colleges as it emerges for 2010
· The ’cascade of accountability’ and the application of requirements laid down in the financial memorandum and the audit code of practice
· Fundamental principles of corporate life: practical case studies dealing with issues of values, ethics and standards in public life
· Different approaches to college governance organisation: models, systems and structures
