Thursday 21st January 2010 (One Day Seminar)
Event code: CLC061
Protocol National, Castle Marina Road, Nottingham NG7 1TN
Who Should Attend
An essential one-day event for Principals, Senior Managers, Governors and Clerks to College Corporations.
Overview
April 2010 will see the biggest change for FE since incorporation in 1993. The recent Machinery of Government changes, with the transfer of FE funding responsibilities to Local Authorities and the Young People’s Skills Funding Agency, will have a significant impact on the work of college corporations. Issues of decision-making, accountability and responsibility will be high on
the agenda for corporations with significant focus on the relationship between corporations and their stakeholders and funders.
‘Performance Management’ through the Framework for Excellence and a changed focus for inspection by OFSTED both bring further change to which colleges need to respond and take a proactive approach to keeping governors and clerks updated.
This event will provide delegates with clear information about the structural changes and their impact on the work of governors and College Corporations.
The day will include:
• An overview of the governing body’s responsibilities for direction, governance and decision-making.
• A focus on taking governance to the next level and seizing opportunities : anticipating the future, corporate culture and values, thinking and acting strategically, agreeing objectives, strategies and action plans.
• The role of governors in monitoring performance - delegating proper authority, agreeing performance indicators and controls, handling success and failures.
• Issues and opportunities in commissioning.
